As a former union organizer who organized real workers for twenty years, maybe I can shed some light on why “Joe Plumber” as you call him (though I find that a little squeam inducing) is supportive of Israel. 🇮🇱 The white working class in large part has traditionally American values, like the importance of hard work and family. They are not at all interested in woke ideology or in cultural or moral relativism. If you haven’t been brainwashed or brain wormed by the far left, it is only logical to be supportive of a western style democracy of people who work very hard and have Jewish values. Normal Americans are horrified by the crimes of the terrorists and remember 9/11. Many Christians are very supportive of our Jewish brothers and sisters, and not in a creepy way like people like to accuse us. I have this chat with the Penn Chabad Rabbi’s wife on a regular basis as they have basically adopted me as their local ally in need of a home. Penn went insane with antisemitism but Jewish life involvement more than doubled. When I say I want to move to more central Pennsylvania to get away from white kids in keffiyehs who chant their support for Hamas, the rabbi and his wife totally get it. American workers who aren’t elite liberals, aren’t Ivy League marxists and aren’t intent on virtue signaling their unconditional support for anything anyone with brown skin does will default to supporting Israel. Many also love their Jewish community members, especially teachers. Hard working, family oriented Jewish people are way more like working class Americans than suicide bombing terrorists. The white working class isn’t stupid. They resisted woke ideology when the suburban whites ate it up. I’m not surprised at all when my middle American friends say “Shalom” to an Israeli member of a zoom meeting I attend. They get that we are on the same side.
You said it, Jill! The riot at Barnard College was absolutely unacceptable. The college’s response to it was just as bad. These students are not peaceful protesters merely exercising their first amendment rights. If they were, this wouldn’t have been such a big news story. But they instead were marching through the halls, chanting genocidal, slogans, intimidating Jewish students and faculty, covering their faces with keffiyehs, assaulted a worker, and left a mess in their wake. You’d think a tornado 🌪️ had hit the school after seeing the mess they left. But they weren’t punished but rewarded with “negotiations” with the President of the school. It’s time for Laura Rosenbury and the entire board of trustees to resign their posts! The students involved must all be expelled and any lawsuits they try to bring against the school dismissed in court. It’s time to get tough on these kids who are old enough to know better. Barnard College is a total joke and a hive of antisemitism. I advise all Jewish students and faculty to transfer out or resign immediately. I also call on all alumni to pull donations. You are right, Jill the Democratic Party and the left have a big problem with woke leftism, antisemitism and hatred for Israel. That has to end! I think it’s time for the Democratic Party to return to being a center-left working man’s party and expel progressives and leftists. They must also adopt a balanced position on the Israel-Palestine Conflict and support peace for both peoples. The Democratic Party must also return to being a big tent party that Jews, Arabs and Muslims can all feel at home in. It’s time for these BDS types to find a real cause to protest for. Not against an imaginary genocide in Gaza that never happened.
Calling these events protests is generous, they are more like anti-Jewish riots whose aim is to threaten and intimidate Jewish and non-Jewish students who don't share their hatred towards Israel. This would stop if there were negative consequences, such as arrests and expulsions, but not even suspensions, so no consequence. Either the administrators share the disdain for Jews, or they are cowards, maybe both. Hoping the schools lose donations from alumni and federal funding, so at least there is some consequence to the school itself owing to the inaction of their administrators.
The Democratic party and base has been working overtime to convince us Jews that we are not wanted in their party, and, speaking only for myself, they have pretty much succeeded. If the Dems don't clean up their house, and the Rs can manage to find someone non Trumpie, then they will have fully succeeded. I'm fed up with their antisemitism.
Perhaps, but antisemitism is not remotely a deal breaker. Granted, its not in the GOP either, but I haven't been called a baby killer by them; I have by dem friends. I've also seen James Zogby (CAIR) run for vice-chair of the DNC, and the outrage when AOC did not get a leadership role. Perhaps they have to try harder to lose you than me.
President Rosebury of Barnard is a coward who is not willing to protect her own maintenance and security staff and has no concept of the rule of law and the idea that malicious actions have punitive consequences.
What kind of person she is is not in question. What I am curious about is where was she educated, what was her course of study there, and how was she selected to serve as the university president. Knowledge of these facts would give us a better idea of how these once great institutions -as well as American higher education in general - have to deteriorated to their current state.
We need to purge the Democratic Party with a flamethrower. Any progressive who can’t abide the party line on Israel and law and order and women’s rights should be shown the door to the Green Party. Any staffer that is in the Free Palestine cult needs to be fired. Anyone who thinks the job of the Democratic Party is to appease DSA members should fuck right off. It’s not complicated. Anyone in the Democratic Party needs to be in the actual party. No independents like Bernie (fuck that old trash socialist) - you want to run in the party, you need to have been a registered Democrat for at least 4 years. No dual membership in the DSA - fuck those fans of Islamist terrorism and totalitarian regimes - you can’t be in both. The party always does worse in elections when it listens to disingenuous progressive kooks.
I think most of the people within the party already meet the criteria you describe - it's just a matter of making sure it's not co-opted by a small but loud minority.

Great analysis! Thank you!
Absolutely April.

I think the admins are afraid of the students.
Why can’t these people move on…what about the violence in Sudan, the persecution of the Uhygurs, the ethnic cleansing in Ethiopia?
No Jews, no news.
Oops. Here’s the rest. “Political party dating app”. Here’s what I am looking for at the moment in a “party”
Commitment to overturn Citizens United
Desire to get control of the deficit with reasonable spending and careful cutting of waste
Fair taxes and everyone paying every dime owed fairly. Without the middle class paying to help our brethren while the rich look on and laugh
Commitment to our Constitution which is the only hope our country had right now
There is more but still trying to turn it all into sound bytes
Love your work. Thank you. Have always been a Democrat but think we need a “political party da

Civilization faces twin threats:
the Left, a religion disguised as an ideology;
and Islam, an ideology disguised as a religion

I haven't even read the post - just the title - but I already love it! Gotta run to work but will read and comment later!
