Hate Mail from Disgruntled Boomers: A Millennial Writer's Worst Nightmare!
The pitfalls of "constructive criticism"
Now that I’ve grown my little Substack publication here to roughly 700 subscribers, I’ve become curious of the demographics of my readership. There’s only so much information that the platform provides, and it’s mainly geographic. So while I know the U.S. states and international countries that my readers represent, I don’t have a whole lot of other demographic data, like age ranges.
I can say with authority, however, that I definitely have my share of Boomer readers. How do I know? Because they feel empowered to send me unsolicited “constructive criticism” on my work (millennials never do this to each other—not unless they’re explicitly asked to). They also present themselves in a way that makes their station in life obvious, like here:
