For us diaspora Jews who do not read Hebrew well, Haaretz and Jerusalem Post were our go-to sources for news out of Israel when I was growing up. It was understood that JPost was more to the right, and Haaretz to the left. Sure, Haaretz criticized the Israeli right, but rarely in a way that approached anti-Zionism. If you read both of them, the truth would be somewhere in the middle of the two.
Now in 2025, I do not believe it an exaggeration to say that that Haaretz has become one of the most problematic aspects of modern Jewry. Truthfully, I hadn’t given the paper a serious read in years until October 7th happened. Since then, the extent to which the anti-Israel lunatic class has weaponized things from Haaretz calls into question the paper’s complicity in peddling the misinformation that fuels hate and violence not only towards Israel, but against Jews around the world.
