One of the most confounding western interpretations of the Israel/Palestine conflict, which of course did not just start during this war, is the idea of a “two-state solution.” The general theory is this: if Palestinians had their own sovereign state, the fighting between them and Israel would stop. Palestinians would be free to chart their own future without foreign interference. Therefore, the two-state solution is the only real path to peace — and it hinges entirely on Israel allowing it to happen.
